A note from our Chief UmpireUpdated Wednesday February 8, 2017 by Chesapeake City Little League.
Dear Parents, Coaches, and supporting family members,
As the new Umpire in Chief for Chesapeake City Little League (CCLL), I wanted to get this note out to you all and say that the time of year we all cherish most is almost upon us again. Currently, trying to over come a problem early on, that we encountered last year - not enough umpires. If not for the work of some dedicated individuals and the generous assistance provided by some of our “sister leagues,” we made it by. Yes, we have a dedicated few, but with a schedule of over 250 games and up, we are recruiting very hard for any father, mother, brother, sister, aunt, uncle, grandparent or any family member that wants to give the Sport of umpiring a try.
Please don’t think that I am going to say go for that and do great things. No - we are going to bring everyone along in accordance within his or her comfort zones. If you are not ready to call a game from behind the Plate, then that is not where we will utilize you.
There is training - There is going to be training so that people can get familiar with the rules and base mechanics. In fact, there is a class scheduled for 18 February, in Fredrick, MD run by the MD State Umpire Association. Of course there will be the very thorough D5 Umpire Clinic that is held every year.
For coaches, this is a win-win situation; we can increase our highly qualified umpires, while the league and kids get back a very rounded coach.
Well everyone I have given you the straight story and all the details. Please give my comments some very hard consideration. Our only judge will be time and the lives we impact!
Let’s Play Ball!
**There are four flyers attached for upcoming Umpire Training. The District 5 (local) training is free. The cost of the MSUA clinic (MD State Umpire training) will be paid by District 5 or CCLL.
