Chesapeake City Little League

Frequently Asked Questions

Updated Sunday March 20, 2016 by Chesapeake City Little League.

·         My child participated in the Player Showcase last year, does he/she have to participate again this year?

Yes! The Showcase is a chance for all Managers in the Minor and Major divisions to see players working on basic drills. We will have new managers and new players each year so all players in Minor and Major divisions will attend.  It is also a chance to get the kids excited for the season!

Players should bring a glove and bat if they have one.  There will be some on hand for players to use if needed.

·         How will my child be selected to a team, and when will the teams be announced?

The Managers in each division participate in a draft to select their team players at the beginning of March.  Parents should be contacted by the Manager before March 12.  Email us if you have not been contacted.

·         I have more than one child, can they play together on the same team?

If your players are in the same age bracket, they will be placed on the same team.  If your children have different last names, please let us know this on your registration form!

·         What do the registration fees go towards?

Fees are charged to cover the uniform cost, league insurance and other Little League fees, and maintenance/improvements at the CCLL complex.  We strive to keep our fees as low as possible by enlisting parent volunteers. We continue to do our own grounds maintenance and concession operation.  Thanks to those who give their time, we have not been forced to institute the “work bond” that other local leagues have put in place. Please volunteer!

NOTE:  There are no refunds once the teams have been drafted unless a player moves out of the league boundary or is injured and cannot play.

·         Are there fundraisers throughout the season?

Team pictures and the Modell’s Team Weeks program are two ways we raise money for the league.  These are not mandatory but participation leads to a percentage of the total sales to come back to CCLL to make improvements or purchase equipment for the league. We are always looking for new ways to raise money for our league.

·         Am I required as a parent to volunteer?

CCLL requires one parent from each home team to work in the concession stand.  Team Managers will have a signup sheet prior to Opening Day. This system allows each parent to choose a convenient time to volunteer.

There are many other opportunities to volunteer if desired.  Please help give our players and families the best season yet!

·         What is the time commitment? How many practices and games per week?

Generally, there are two practices (time / location selected by the Manager) and two games per week.  Weather may impact the schedule. Practices are held in Chesapeake City or Cecilton.  Games are held in Chesapeake City.  Some divisions may need to travel to other leagues if there are not enough teams. Tee-Ball and Coach Pitch do not travel.

·         How does the team and/or local league communicate with parents? Does the league have a social media presence?

CCLL sends emails through League Toolbox.  We update our website regularly during the season and now have a Facebook page. Managers will use phone, text, or email. New players will receive an email to activate an account with League Toolbox.  Please do so to receive important info from CCLL and your Manager.

·         Can I manage my child’s team?

Anyone who wishes to manage a team should sign up through our website.  There is a Manager/Head Coach registration button on the home page.  Once Managers are chosen, they will designate a Coach and may select a second Coach from their roster after the draft.

·         What will my child need to bring to practice?

Your child’s Team Manager will let you know what to bring.

·         When is Opening Day, and what will be involved?

Opening Day is held early/mid April.  We have a parade that marches from Chesapeake City Elem to the CCLL complex. Opening Ceremonies follow, then games begin.  This is our biggest event of the year!  See the parent newsletter for more detailed info.

·         Does each player play every game?

YES!  Divisions will vary in the playing time required but each player will play in every game.

·         Where can I find the Little League rules?

Rules can be found online at littleleague.org

Each Manager is provided a copy of the official Little League Rulebook at the beginning of the season.  Board Members will also be able to help out with rule questions.

·         Will my player get to play with his/her classmates?

Requests to play with a classmate will be noted on the registration but are not guaranteed.

·         What is an all-star, and how is the team selected?

All-Star teams are tournament teams that play double elimination tournaments at the end of the regular season.  Players are chosen by the Managers in their age bracket.  Little League determines the eligibility requirements and age brackets for all-star teams. A player who “plays up” in a higher division during the regular season is NOT guaranteed a spot on the all-star team.

·         When will the all-star team be announced?

All-Star teams are announced in mid-June

·         Do I have to sign my child up to be an all-star?

No.  All players who meet Little League eligibility requirements are placed on the draft list for all-stars.
